Paddy Dillon
Paddy is an acclaimed travel writer and self confessed "Islomaniac". He is author of the Cicerone guide Walking in the Isle of Arran. Come and hear him speak about the islands he has explored and come to know and love, including of course, our very own Paddy's poster.
Guided Walks
The guided walks follow three main themes that encompass the beautiful terrain and scenery of the Isle of Arran; Coastal Way, Forestry and Mountain. We also have two very special walks on Holy Isle, being led by the Community of Arran Seabed Trust.
The Coastal Way walks provide a taster of Arran's fantastic Coastal Way, with the walk to Kings Caves and Machrie on the Friday offering glimpes of Arran's ancient past, and the walk from Sannox to Lochranza on Saturday and Sunday visiting the wild North of the island with fabulous mountain views.
The Forestry walks offer something a little bit different as they will also take in the seldom visited moorland of the Southend, a haven for moorland birds and offering a remote wildnerness experience. The hills are not as high as the mountains of the North, but climbing to the summit of Tighvein is a worthy challenge. These walks are led by Forestry Commission Scotland Rangers.
The Mountain Walks will take you in to some of the most spectacular mountain terrain in the British Isles. Arran's ridge is second only to the Skye Cuillins for length and technicality, but there are a range of walks on offer that dip in and out of the mountains at different levels of dificulty, with something that will suit most fit walkers.
Golf: Texas Scramble
As an added feature to the festival, a Texas Scramble has been arranged at Lamlash Golf Club. Teams of three persons, single gender or mixed, will tee off at 1pm on Saturday 2th September. Team handicaps will be ** one tenth of the total tam handicaps. Green fees will be £15 per person (normally £28 pounds per round) and some clubs will be available to hire at £5 per bag.
**Handicaps of 4. 12. 20 = 36 = handicap of 3.6 = playing handicap of 4.
Format:
Each team will consist of three players, each player will tee off at each hole. The players then select the best drive and mark the position (within 1 club length) with a tee peg (*not nearer the hole, and in the same ground condition). A minimum of four tee shots per player to be used. The player whose ball has been chosen then plays his next shot first. The remaining players then play within 1 club length of the tee peg (not nearer the hole). This method of play is followed until the green is reached. On the green the same method applies. The ball chosen is marked by a putter head length and players putt from the same spot in turn. The score is the total number of shots from the chosen spots (including the tee shot).
Prizes
A prize will be awarded to each member of the winning team.
